A Starter's Guide to KHR

When trying to get my friends into KHR, there’s two problems I commonly find myself facing. The first is that the first 61 chapters have very little in common with the remaining 348, which can make it hard for people to get into it long enough to get to the parts that are more along the shounen aspects of the series. The second is that the art style might not be their thing. Fortunately, for the second, proof of art evolution is a beautiful thing:




For the first? Well, that’s what this post is being made for.

Introducing the Starter’s Guide to KHR, where I’ll list the relevant chapters where we’re introduced to major characters, minor characters, plot points that are relevant later on, and a few other things!

Tsuna staying short forever

Tsuna hitting high school and finally coming to terms with the fact that if he hasn’t hit a growth spurt now then it’s probably not going to happen, and finding himself surprised that he’s not as bothered as he thought he would be to just be 165 cm

Still a little, of course, and sometimes he’s envious of how much his friends tower over him, but it’s not a biting or bothersome feeling, just a bit of wistful thinking from time to time

Because he’s still every bit his mother’s child, it seems, from the soft brown of his eyes to the shades of his hair to his height now, and that is a strange reassurance to him

(He does not hate his father. He doesn’t love him, either, but he doesn’t hate him. It’s just that he’s gone literal years without seeing his father, and it’d be strange to see traces of him whenever he’d look into a mirror.)

Tsuna becoming Vongola Decimo proper, a young man who’s found his footing and refuses to lose it now, smiling easily to the heads of other families and joking “I hope I haven’t disappointed!”

Except there’s an edge to it, a fire to his gaze and a weight to his presence that both captivates and intimidates, and some people don’t even notice his height at first glance because there is something in Tsunayoshi Sawada that cannot be contained in that small of a body and it presses down on others

Tsuna stays small, and warm, and he is so very much like a stray ember that was left forgotten and became the precursor to a blaze overtaking everything

Fantasma Headcanon

All of the Arcobaleno’s animal partners are shown to have extraordinary abilities in their own rights. A lot of them we aren’t really shown: Fon’s Lichi, Verde’s Keiman, Colonello’s Falco, and Luce’s Cosmo. That leaves three for us to know, vaguely, the abilities of: Skull and Oodako, of course Reborn and Leon, and… Mammon and Fantasma.

Fantasma, I think, is a particularly special case.

Why? Well, it’s never explicitly stated, but I feel like there’s a good chance that Mammon experimented on Fantasma.

Joking aside, I was kind of bewildered when I read that in a Tsuna character development analysis kind of post. It seemed so contradictory to what I had seen in canon. It’s still bugging me something fierce, ha ha, so I thought I would make my own post as a counter to the idea.

Just to clarify: this is about what we see of the TYL Tsuna from the Millefiore timeline.

From what I understand, the argument was dependent on two things:

- Tsuna wasn’t ruthless enough
- Tsuna destroyed the Vongola rings, compromising the Vongola and the world’s safety

However…. There are some problems here which I’m going into here. It’s, uh. Probably going to get pretty long here. Just a warning.

Katekyo Hitman Reborn DadOff

subtitle: comparing Iemitsu and Reborn’s relationship to Tsuna, an undertaking which does not make the former look particularly sterling in any way.

Throughout Katekyo Hitman Reborn!, most of Tsuna’s focused relationships are on people near his own age. The majority of his guardians attend school with him, along with the Simon Family. His first major antagonist is a teenager as well. (What’s up with Xanxus, put into cryostasis around the same age? We just don’t know.)

There are two adults, however, who have quite an influence on Tsuna: Iemitsu Sawada and Reborn.

Funnily enough, despite being in similar roles- that of an adult male meant to be respected and (in the best case scenario) cared for- how they interact with Tsuna, their relationship with him, and ultimately how he treats them back are quite contrasting.

The main differences can be divided into four areas, more or less, with the first ultimately encompassing them all.

Vongola Ottavo is more amazing than we probably think about

I mean there’s no doubt that she’s a queen, since she’s the only woman Vongola boss, and tattoos like that tell a story.

But recently someone pointed out some implications to me that I can’t stop thinking about, and they’re

Daniela was head of the Vongola during WW2
She probably made Daemon Spade’s life a living hell.
The WW2 is simply taking a look at generations. As Ottavo, it makes sense. Also, if the wiki is correct on Timoteo’s age, then that would put him being born just a couple of years before the start of WW2.

The wiki also claims that Giotto is an idol of hers, so if you don’t think she was helping out Italian resistance…

As for Daemon, he’s already shown that he has a tendency to stick close to the Vongola as he hopped from being Giotto’s Mist Guardian to Ricardo’s, with the last Vongola boss he stuck to… was Daniela. (Ch 344) However, on that page, he’s shown keeping his distance in some way from everyone- Ricardo, Julie, the other man. The exception to this is how he is practically looming over Daniela.

If it’s as huge an event as WW2, then this makes sense. Even a group like the Vongola would be in trouble if the wrong moves were taken. That would mean he’d have to move in much closer than his usual M.O.

Close enough that the infamous Vongola Intuition could pick his troublemaking ass up.

Because we don’t see him in that similar kind of position with Timoteo, Daniela’s son and Vongola Nono. Instead, for some reason, he’s run off and had to slip into the small and relatively unknown Simon Family.

One way or another, Daniela made such an impression (which might have been the impression of her shoe in his face) that Daemon couldn’t safely or securely stick close to the Vongola.

Adelheid/Haru - the best femslash ship you never considered

First of all, I know- Adel and Haru never interact in canon. However, if we only stuck to things that explicitly happened in canon, fandom would be dead.

What matters when it comes to Adel/Haru isn’t their (lack of) interactions, but how their personalities mesh perfectly when you give some thought to it.
