Adelheid/Haru - the best femslash ship you never considered
First of all, I know- Adel and Haru never interact in canon. However, if we only stuck to things that explicitly happened in canon, fandom would be dead.
What matters when it comes to Adel/Haru isn’t their (lack of) interactions, but how their personalities mesh perfectly when you give some thought to it.
I mean, let’s go over Haru for a minute-
She attends Midori Middle School, one of the most elite schools around meant for only the brightest.
(Therefore, combined with her professor father, Haru is one bright chick.)
She’s highly creative and good with crafts…
…to the point of being more than a little eccentric.
Isn’t afraid to get into arguments or straight up throwdown.
(Girl made an improv set of armor to fight someone she was told was in the mafia, pls adore this queen)
Is almost hanging out with the Namimori group… and tried to make friends with a random baby
These things add up to two main points, I think. The first is that Haru, above all else, is passionate. This girl will not do things half assedly. Go big or go home. The second is…
It doesn’t seem like Haru had a lot of friends.
Everyone else in the main group know each other because of the school they go to. They don’t seem to have many acquaintances or friends from other schools, with Haru being the sole exception. It’d be easy to see some of her positive traits twisted into negative attributes- “know it all”, “weirdo”, “annoying”, etc. Even if it’s not a worse case scenario like that, the fact remains that she spends more time with the Nami group with no hints that there’s anyone waiting for her at Midori.
So her driving force is passion, but she very clearly wants a group to be a part of.
I wonder what other character is similar in that regard.
(spoilers it’s Adelheid)
At a first glance, Haru and Adel don’t seem that alike. Haru is the energetic cheery type, Adel is the type of stone cold queen who would snap your neck while walking past you. Yet at their cores, passion is their driving force- Adel is called Shimon’s passion, a woman who chases after something with all her being. The difference against Haru is that she already has a group, a Family, to steadfastly call her own. A Family that’s energetic, and eccentric, and wouldn’t blink twice at a small girl who makes her own boat costumes.
Because if Haru would date Adelheid, of course she’d become one of Shimon’s own. (Julie and Aoba were ready to fight a goddamn baby over appreciating Adel they love her so much, of course they’d protect her girlfriend and welcome her into the family)
So Haru would get a group to call her own that welcomes her wholeheartedly, a group that won’t judge any of her eccentricities, and a girlfriend whose passion keeps up with her own.
In turn, while Adelheid also gets a girlfriend with a passion, she also gets someone who would support her and bring her out of her seriousness a little. Adelheid does so much for Shimon. She’s their leader more than anyone, a teenage girl who had to step up as a parental figure in the absence of anyone else. However, she’s still a teenager, still a girl trying to put too much on her shoulders.
Someone like Haru wouldn’t let her do that alone. She’d be her support, her equal when she needs one, and wouldn’t back down against Adel’s stubbornness. She’d be exactly what Adel would need and, in turn, Adel would give her all her love and loyalty.
After all, she doesn’t do things half heartedly either.
